DAY 1 – Boston, Massachusetts
After
independent arrivals at the hotel, we meet for our
private welcome reception and dinner. We take this
opportunity to introduce the train staff and other
guests who will be joining us on our journey. This
evening we overnight at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. (D)
DAY 2 – Boston,
Massachusetts /Board The American Orient Express
This
morning, we enjoy breakfast in the hotel before departing
on motorcoaches for a city tour of Boston, which includes
visits to the Old North Church, Harvard Square, Bunker
Hill and the USS Constitution. We also have lunch
in the city. This evening, we enjoy dinner and
overnight on board the train. (B,L,D)

DAY 3 – Pittsfield,
Massachusetts
This morning,
we wake for breakfast in the Western Berkshires of Massachusetts before
boarding motorcoaches for Stockbridge – the picturesque hometown
of artist Norman Rockwell. Made famous in his numerous illustrations,
Stockbridge is renown throughout America as the ideal small town of
the early 2oth century. After visiting the Norman Rockwell Museum,
we continue on to enjoy Chesterwood – home of sculptor Daniel
French. In the early afternoon, lunch is served at historic Cranwell. We
then continue into Tanglewood – summer home to the Boston Pops
Orchestra – for a walking tour with splendid views of the tree
covered Western Berkshires. Back on board this evening, we enjoy
dinner and overnight en route to Canada. (B,L,D)
DAY 4 – Quebec
City, Quebec
Arriving
in Quebec City this morning, we detrain and tour the
old city. Visits will include Parliament Hill – where
the French-Canadian government presided. We then
journey outside the old citadel to the Plains of Abraham. It
is here that the British defeated the French to determine
which European power would claim supremacy over colonial
North America. Continue on to Montmorency Falls,
while enjoying the surrounding fall colors. Alternatively,
stay in the old city center to venture out on your
own, enjoy dinner and overnight at Chateau Frontenac. (B,L)
DAY 5 – Montreal,
Quebec
This
morning, we travel by train along the Saint Lawrence
River to Montreal. Here we will tour the McCord
Museum of Canadian History, visit the Notre Dame Basilica
and continue on to Saint Helen Island and “old
Montreal”. We reboard the train for dinner
and overnight as we re-cross the border into the United
States and travel to our next destination – Maine. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 – Bar
Harbor, Maine
Autumn paints
the New England countryside with a tapestry of yellow, red, orange
and gold as the leaves turn during the cold, dark nights. After
breakfast on board, we transfer by motorcoach to the coastal town of
Bar Harbor. This quaint hamlet is famous for its mariner tradition
as a lobster fisherman’s port. On our way to Bar Harbor,
we visit Acadia National Park for photo stops and a traditional Maine
lobster bake lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon, we
enjoy a boat tour out in the ocean in search of several species of
whales and other marine life. After a full day of exploring,
we return to the train for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
DAY 7 – Vermont,
New Hampshire
The
morning is spent touring Montpelier, Vermont’s
picturesque state capital. Montpelier has maintained
its independent merchants, enabling this city ti keep
its early 20th century “Main Street” charm. This
afternoon, we board the train and begin traveling through
the scenic fall foliage – a great treat that
few have experienced in the past 50 years. The
railroad tracks in this region run through some of
the most scenic countryside – winding through
the Green Mountains and along the Connecticut River
Valley. The day is spent on board as we make
our way through this scenic area. We roll past
quaint rural Vermont villages before continuing south
into Massachusetts. This evening, we enjoy a
farewell cocktail reception and dinner with overnight
on the train en route to our final destination. (B,L,D)
DAY 8 – Boston, Massachusetts
After
a leisurely breakfast on board the train, we arrive
in Boston where we are free to explore the city or
make individual arrangements for our journeys home. (B)
