return to top

You arrive in Kenya's vibrant capital and are transferred to your fine hotel. After lunch look toward the adventures ahead at a helpful safari briefing with your guide. Afterwards, an afternoon tour presents a compelling overview of Nairobi's surroundings. Visit the enchanting Giraffe Center and Karen Blixen home, then shop for handcrafted goods at the Utamaduni Center.  A delicious welcome dinner party completes an eventful day. Norfolk Hotel (L,D)

Days 4-5, Amboseli National Park

You're off on safari with a flight to Amboseli National Park, your home for the next two nights. One of the most spectacular sights in Africa is Amboseli's large herds of game backed by the towering profile of Mt. Kilimanjaro, rising 19,340 feet above the plain.  Amboseli is home to over 1,000 elephant, rare black rhinoceros, and herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo and their predators.  Your stay at the environmentally-sensitive Tortilis Camp will compliment this setting.  Savor breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro from the comforts of your private veranda; take a guided gamewalk with a Masai expert; relax in your spacious tent with every modern convenience. At night the sounds of the bush lull you to sleep.  Tortilis Camp (B,L,D)

Days 6-7, Samburu National Reserve
return to top

Fly via Nairobi to the northern frontier, home of Samburu people wrapped in colorful fabrics and jewelry; and the small Samburu Reserve, filled with specially adapted wildlife found in no other area.  Two days of morning and afternoon game-viewing will yield typical northern species such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich and Beisa oryx.  Search for leopard in the trees, hippo and elephant at the river, and a profusion of colorful birdlife.  Back at your traditional safari camp, enjoy excellent food, service and ambiance. Larsens Camp (B,L,D)

Days 8-9, Sweetwaters Game Reserve

Depart Friday toward Mt. Kenya, where you arrive at Sweetwaters and your superbly-appointed tent overlooking a floodlit waterhole. Set off-the-beaten-path in the game-rich habitats of a private ranch, Sweetwaters offers experiences found nowhere else in Kenya.  Visit Jane Goodall's innovative chimp sanctuary; tour Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuary; view leopard, giraffe, buffalo, elephant and zebra with Mt. Kenya as a backdrop.  Other adventures include game-viewing on foot, at night and by camel back in this wonderful sanctuary. Sweetwaters Camp (B,L,D)

Days 10-12, Masai Mara National Reserve

Take a spectacularly scenic flight over Great Rift Valley landscapes to the Masai Mara, Kenya's northern extension of the famous Serengeti Plain.  The wildlife is abundant here and your three days of morning and afternoon game-drives will afford choice views of huge lion prides, resident elephants, hippos, plains game and predators, and the chance to observe very moving natural cycles of life.  Other special activities available here include optional hot-air balloon excursions; fishing on Lake Victoria; and visiting an authentic Maasai manyatta village.  At the end of each day, retire to a candlelight dinner, conversation around the campfire, and the comforts of your classic tented camp.  Governors Camp (B,L,D)

Day 13, Nairobi
return to top

After a final game-run and breakfast, fly back to Nairobi for a final night in Kenya.  In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of city highlights and an opportunity for last-minute shopping and packing.  This evening, your safari concludes with flair at a farewell dinner party.  Norfolk Hotel (B,L,D)
