Tundra Vehicles

The Tundra Buggy is a large 4-wheel drive vehicle that moves over the frozen tundra on massive rolling-pin-shaped low pressure tires. Passengers are about 6 feet above the ground at window level. The Tundra Buggy is heated, has large operable windows, and is equipped with a restroom. The vehicle seats a maximum of 22 people. We will travel to areas of bears and their yearling cubs, solitary sub-adults, and gigantic males. The Tundra Buggies allow us to view the bears safely and get remarkably close to them with a minimum of disturbance. The large operable windows are perfect for wildlife viewing and photography. From our vantage point, we can observe their behavior, as well as their striking beauty. On previous trips, we have been thrilled to watch the friendly wrestling matches of adults as they wait along the shore of the bay for its impending freeze. There are many "take downs" and rolls, and until recently, it was not known that the big adults engaged in play.
