Amazon River Cruise (10 days)

DAY 1: LIMA, PERU ARRIVAL
Upon arrival, we are met by our representatives and transferred to our hotel.

DAY 2: LIMA / IQUITOS
Transfer to the airport for our flight to Iquitos. A thick carpet of greenery fills our view on the descent to Iquitos, Gateway to the Amazon River. We are met upon arrival and transferred to our hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore the outdoor market, have a look at the Belen floating village, and the once elegant mansions from the 19th century rubber boom days.

DAY 3: IQUITOS / AMAZON CRUISE 
A local representative will meet us and assist us with the transfer to the dock.  Board the M/V Rio Amazonas.  After a short briefing by the ship's cruise director, check in to your cabin. Lunch will be served on board.  Sail down river from Iquitos, passing the cities' industrial areas.  Enjoy the changed view and the atmosphere on board.

DAY 4: AMAZON CRUISE 
Early morning bird watching and visit to the "Bora" and Huitoto" Indian villages for a blow gun demonstration.  Later, stop at the town of Pevas, the oldest Peruvian town on the Amazon. In the afternoon, a jungle hike through the dense rain forest of the Shishita river area.  Night expeditions by launch up a small tributary.

DAY 5: AMAZON CRUISE 
Morning jungle walk to see the Victoria Regia water lilies, followed by a piranha fishing expedition on a small back-water lake. Afternoon visit to the missionary village at Lake Caballococha. After sunset, cross the lake to look for the Amazon caiman's eyes glowing from flashlight’s gleam in the reedy shallows.

DAY 6: AMAZON CRUISE 
Early arrival opposite Leticia (Colombia) and Tabatinga (Brazil). Morning at leisure. Now sail down river. Time permitting, there will be a shore excursion.

DAY 7: AMAZON CRUISE

A morning trip by launch up the Ataquari river to fish in a small back-water lake. Afternoon stop at the remote leper hospital of San Pablo, with time to browse in the primitive "gift shop," which sells patients' handicrafts. Night cruise up the Mayaruna river. Hear the sight and sounds of the jungle and look for caiman.

DAY 8: AMAZON CRUISE
After a short stop at Pijuayal for a document check, continue up the Ampiyacu river for a visit to Pevas and a group of Yagua natives for trading manufactured goods for native handicrafts.

DAY 9: AMAZON CRUISE / IQUITOS / LIMA 
Mid morning arrival in Iquitos.  A few hours at leisure.  In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for our flight to Lima, where we are met on arrival and transferred to our hotel.

DAY 10: LIMA DEPARTURE
Approximately 2 hours prior to departure, we transfer to the airport where we shall board our flight out.
