Pilgrimage to the Center with Michael Meade

Day 1

Depart USA; overnight flight to Lima, Peru.

 

Day 2 Lima – Cuzco

Morning flight to Cuzco. Our guide,  Abelardo will meet us at the Cuzco Airport and take us to Dorado Inn. In the afternoon we’ll visit the towering fortress and ruins of Sacsayhuaman, thus beginning our journey. In the evening we’ll have our group welcome dinner at Tunupa Restaurant. Overnight, Dorado Inn. (D)

 

Day 3 Cuzco

Morning visit to the Museum of Natural History, the artist

colony of San Blas, the church of Santa Domingo and Korichancha. In the afternoon we’ll see the Temple of the Sun and the ruins of K’enko. Group dinner at Jose Antonio restaurant. Overnight, Dorado Inn. (B, D)

Day 4 Cuzco – Sacred Valley

This morning we travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a

verdantly lush and tranquil setting. Our first stop includes a short hike into the ruins of Pisac. Next stop: lunch at Posada del Inca, a former convent located in the heart of the Valley in Urubamba.  What a perfect place to acknowledge life’s abundance…the Sacred Valley. We’ll have an opportunity to explore the Salt Mines of Maras, then hike back to the Urubamba River where our bus will be waiting.  Dinner and overnight in our hotel, Posada del Inca II. (B, L, D)

Day 5
Sacred Valley

In the morning we are off to the city and ruins of

Ollantaytambo, the scene of one of the last great battles between the Spaniards and the Incas. After lunch relax in the gardens and palatial energy of Posada Del Inca. Balance of afternoon free to relax or explore (bicycles available for rent). Dinner and overnight, Posada del Inca II. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu

Early morning bus to Ollantaytambo train station. Train ride

to Aguas Calientes, check in to hotel; After lunch (on your own) a short bus ride takes us to the architectural wonder of Machu Picchu where Abelardo will conduct a guided tour of the "Lost City of the Incas." Overnight, Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. (B)

 

Day 7 Machu Picchu

Bus to Machu Picchu ruins. Allow yourself to simply rest in the

wonder of this magnificent universe or take the optional hike

along the Inca Trail through the Cloud Forest to the ruins of

Wiñay Wayna. Guided tour and box lunch at Wiñay Wayna where we’ll explore the ruins and hidden waterfall. Complete the hiking circuit by hiking into the Urubamba Valley and following the Urubamba River back to Aguas Calientes. Dinner on your own  Overnight, Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. (B, L)

Day 8
Machu Picchu – Cuzco

Bus to Machu Picchu ruins. Optional late morning hike to the top

of Huayna Picchu Mountain with breathtaking views of the ruins of Machu Picchu and the Urubamba River Valley. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch on your own, afternoon shopping or a visit to the hot baths that give this city its name. Board the afternoon train for return to Cuzco. Farewell dinner at Jose Antonio restaurant with optional late night salsa dancing at the Kamikaze disco. Overnight, Dorado Inn. (B, D)

 

Day 9 Cuzco – Lima

Early air departure to Lima. Transport to Hotel Jose Antonio,

Miraflores where we have day rooms. After lunch (on your own) we’ll travel by bus for a tour of the famous Gold Museum and a short city tour. Balance of afternoon and evening free for exploring Miraflores.  Late evening departure from Lima airport. Overnight on plane. (B)

 

Day 10 Lima – USA

Arrive home mid-day.
